Happy St Patrick's Day

Hey Girls, How are you doing today? I hope you are having a great day. I just wanted to wish you all a Happy St. Patrick's day. So are you wearing green today? Well I thought you girl's might like to know a little about St. Patrick's day. St. Patrick's day is always on the 17th of March. It is believed that Saint Patrick's Day has been celebrated in Ireland since before the 1600s. In 1903, Saint Patrick's Day became an official public holiday in Ireland. The first Saint Patrick's Festival was held on 17 March, 1996. Traditionally, those who are caught not wearing green are pinched affectionately. His father was a nobleman and a deacon. But Saint Patrick's privileged life came to an end at age 16 when he was captured by slave raiders from Ireland. With a large group of prisoners, Saint Patrick was transported to the then pagan island. Sold as a slave to a king in the northeast, Saint Patrick had the lonely task of tending the pigs and sheep. In the midst of these harsh living conditions, Patrick's faith flourished as he turned to God in prayer. After being held captive for six years, Saint Patrick heard a voice in his sleep say, "Soon you will go back to your homeland." A short time later, he heard the same voice say, "Your ship is ready. "Trusting in God, Saint Patrick set out on a 200-mile journey through unknown territory. When he arrived at the ship, the captain at first refused to take him. But Patrick prayed to God for help, and the captain changed his mind. Then began a lifetime of dedicating his life to becoming a priest. He envisioned returning to Ireland to teach the Irish about Christianity. During his 30 years in Ireland, Saint Patrick founded more than 300 churches and baptized more than 120,000 people. Yet he still encountered much opposition, "Daily I expect either murder, robbery, or enslavement," he wrote in his Confessions. He escaped from 12 attempts on his life. Saint Patrick died a natural death on March 17, 461. By the end of the 7th century, many legends had developed about Saint Patrick. One, of course, says he charmed all the snakes in Ireland and led them to the sea to drown. Another, probably the most popular, is that Saint Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity to unbelievers. This is probably why shamrocks, now Ireland's national flower, are worn by the Irish on St Patrick's Day. Well I just wanted to tell you a little about St. Patrick's Day. I hope you have a great St. Patrick's day and God Bless you all. Thank you for visiting my blog.

Some of these Crafts are from the old days and some are not. This crafts is not its just something for your girls to do. This craft is a gel mug craft. These crafts are not mine. I just find them and put them on here for your girls to do. You'll need:
  • Ceramic mugs and other candle containers(enough to hold all of the melted gel wax)
  • Gel wax
  • Candle wicks
  • Pencils
  • Pot to melt wax in; gel wax does not melt in microwave
  • Candle scent and color
  • Sharp scissors
Twine the top of the wick around the middle of a pencil. Leave enough of the wick hanging so that it will touch the bottom of the mug or other candle container with no slack. You want the wick to be straight down the center. Place the pencil on top of the mug, so that the wick hangs down the center. Melt gel wax according to the package directions. Add coloring and scent. Carefully pour the gel wax into the container. You may want to sit the container on a paper plate which will catch the wax should your pouring not be on target. Fill all of the containers and allow them to cool completely before moving on. Do check that the wick is straight and down the center of the mug. You can use a pencil to straighten it if there is a need. The gel wax will harden as it cools. Trim the wick with a sharp pair of scissors to about 1/4" height. Enjoy! Well hope you have fun making your gel candles. I hope you have fun. Have a great day and God bless.

Hey Everyone, How are you doing. I am doing great. So what do you think about my blog so far? Well I'm not finish yet. I still have a lot of work to do. But if you have anything that you think that might look good on here. Then just let me know because I love help. I have been look at old crafts and I'm thinking about put some on here. This one is called a Braided Rug. Pioneers often found themselves with scraps of fabric left over, either fabric left from cutting out fabric scraps, or from old clothes that were no longer serviceable for wearing, but were perfectly fine for making rugs from.

Supplies

  • Fabric scraps, cut into strips 3 inches wide (for a thicker rug, you can cut them into 4, 5 or 6 inches wide, but make sure all strips are the same width)
  • Heavy weight thread, matching the most dominant color in your fabric scraps, or in gray.
  • Heavy needle for sewing (ask an adult for help).

Instructions

  1. To begin, sew three separate strips together at one end. You can also tie a secure knot instead.
  2. Begin braiding tightly. You can tie the end to something secure such as a chair or table leg, which will make it easier for you to quickly braid while keeping the braid tight.
  3. As you get to the end of a strip, you sew or knot a new strip on, and then keep braiding.
  4. When you have used all your scraps, you then begin at one end and coil it. You or an adult can then braid the edges together, until you reach the end of the braid
So that's how you do a braided rug. I found this activity off of a little house on the prairie site. So if you want to know more about some of the other crafts. Then you can go to http://www.laurasprairiehouse.com/crafts/braidedrug.html. They have some cute activities to do. If you like these kind of activities that come and check back. Because I may have some new ones for you.
